Taipei, April, 10 (CNA) The Communist Party of China (CPC) decided Tuesday to expel the disgraced former party boss in Chongqing from both the CPC Central Committee and its Political Bureau, the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported late in the night.
Bo was removed as the CPC party chief in the southwestern Chinese municipality in early March after his deputy and former police chief of the city, Wang lijuan reportedly sought political asylum at the U.S. consulate-general in Chengdu, about 270 kilometers northwest of Chongqing, in early February.
Xinhua said that CPC has came to the decision because Bo has been suspected of "committing serious irregularities." But it did not elaborate.
It added that CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection is now investigating Bo's case.
Political observers believed that Bo's removal from all party posts involves internal power struggle within the CPC, especially at a time when China is about to undergo a leadership transition starting this autumn.
Meanwhile, the China Central Television reported earlier that Bo's wife, Gu Kailai, was probed for her suspected involvement in the killing of Neil Heywood, a British businessman, in last November.
