People's Republic of China Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson on US Senate's decision of indefinitely postponing voting on the so-called China's Non-proliferation amendment
Q: It is reported that the US Senate, while reviewing China's PNTR, decided to postpone indefinitely voting on the so-called China's non-proliferation amendment. Could I have your comments on that?
A: We have taken note of the relevant reports. China has always been opposed to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. It has made its due contribution to international non-proliferation by imposing strict and effective control over the relevant materials in accordance with its own policies on arms trade and non-proliferation and relevant international commitments. China firmly opposes the attempts by a small number of members of US Congress to interfere in China's internal affairs and disrupt Sino-US relations in the name of non-proliferation. Facts have also proved that the attempts by a small number of members of US Congress, regardless of the tremendous efforts of the Chinese side in the non-proliferation field, to work for the passage by the US Congress of so-called China's Non-proliferation amendment so as to undermine the improvement and development of China-US relations are unpopular and will not succeed.
