Backgrounder
Canada-Qatar development cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU)
Canada and Qatar have signed a MOU committing the two countries to collaboration in areas of common interest, as well as in countries where both have active development programming.
The MOU will commit the two countries to:
- increasing policy dialogue
- enhancing institutional linkages
- coordinating programming in countries of interest
This enhanced cooperation will contribute to a more coordinated response to today's most pressing global challenges. It will focus on poverty reduction—which is consistent with the principles of sustainable development—the promotion of good governance, support for country- and women-led solutions, the commitment to diversity and pluralism, and the protection of human rights.
Global Affairs Canada-Education Above All Foundation framework arrangement
The arrangement between Global Affairs Canada and the Education Above All Foundation will allow both parties to collaborate on education projects.
The framework operates under the umbrella of the Canada-Qatar development cooperation MOU and highlights Canada and Qatar's co-leadership of Generation Unlimited (GenU), a public-private-youth partnership hosted by UNICEF. Through projects such as the Green Rising initiative, GenU aims to equip young people in over 60 developing countries with the skills they need to thrive in a green economy, while contributing to the prosperity of their communities.
