Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's official visit to the Republic of Belarus

On June 24-25, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov paid an official visit to the Republic of Belarus on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of diplomatic relations.

During his visit, Sergey Lavrov was welcomed by President Alexander Lukashenko, met with Chair of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova and Chairman of House of Representatives of the National Assembly Igor Sergeyenko, and held talks with Foreign Minister Sergey Aleinik. He also laid a wreath at the Victory Monument in Minsk and delivered a speech at the Academy of Public Administration under the Aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus.

During the meeting with President Lukashenko, the participants highlighted the substantial nature of political exchanges between Russia and Belarus, the vigorous dynamics of multifaceted bilateral cooperation, union integration, interaction within the CSTO, the EAEU and the CIS. The parties discussed the progress of work on the drafts of the Union State security concept and the treaty on security guarantees between Russia and Belarus. The parties exchanged assessments of the international situation and the situation surrounding Ukraine. Thanks were expressed to the Belarusian side for supporting the special military operation and Russia's proposals concerning the final settlement of the Ukraine crisis.

During the meetings with the heads of the chambers of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the participants emphasised the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary and interregional cooperation, expanding the common scientific, educational, and cultural and humanitarian space of the Union State. Joint efforts to promote the patriotic education of the youth and the preservation of the historical memory were highlighted.

During extensive talks at the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov and Sergey Aleinikov discussed current matters of interagency interaction and foreign policy coordination on multilateral platforms. The Ministers harmonised their positions on global and regional priorities and expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the 2024-2026 Programme of concerted foreign policy actions of the countries members of the Treaty on the Creation of the Union State and the plan of ministerial consultations for 2024.

Diplomatic support of the efforts to fulfil the Union integration goals which were approved by the decisions of the Supreme State Council of the Union State will continue. The agenda of the joint meeting of the boards of the Russian and Belarusian foreign ministries in the fourth quarter was approved.

The Russian side expressed support for the upcoming second Minsk conference on Eurasian security and the Belarusian initiative to draft a Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st century. Sergey Lavrov and Sergey Aleinik sent a joint address to the heads of executive bodies of friendly Eurasian associations inviting them to join the dialogue concerning this initiative.
