On March 29, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania summoned the chargé d'affaires ad interim of Belarus Yaroslav Khmyl and handed him a diplomatic note expressing a solid protest over Aliaksandr Lukashenko's unreasonable criticism expressed during conversations with commanders of the Belarusian Armed Forces of alleged military threats to Belarus rising from Lithuania, the insinuation of the Suwalki Corridor's indefensibility, and ordering the Belarusian army to prepare for a possible confrontation with the Baltic states and Poland.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, such statements can be understood as a further escalation of the aggressive foreign policy pursued by the Belarusian authorities and are entirely unacceptable. The Foreign Ministry also demanded that Belarus immediately explain Lukashenko's statements officially. In addition, Lithuania's Foreign Ministry reiterates that Lithuania will take all possible measures to ensure the country's security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
