Soviet agitprop poster
This poster was issued in 1966 in Moscow. The caption reads in the lower right-hand corner, "For you, Humanity!" The image shows a cosmonaut un-wrapping the Moon and the wrapping paper has the USSR "hammer and sickle" motif. At the very top of the Moon, is the familiar pentagonal emblem for the Luna 9 soft-landing, which took place in January 1966. This poster shows in a very graphic manner the direct connection to the notion that Soviet cosmonauts would be the chosen ones "unveiling" the wonders of the lunar world to the peoples of the Earth.
