Pesavento portraiture
The author with three Soviet space posters. Part of a series issued in 1972 that depicted Soviet space achievements (in color) and future plans (in silver half-tone), the paintings were a collaboration of futurist Andrei Sokolov and cosmonaut Alexei Leonov. The three posters illustrate respectively, left to right: Luna 10 orbiting over the Moon, with a future manned lunar lander and tending station; the launching of Vostok 1, with two heavy-lift rockets with lunar payloads being readied for lift-off; and the third, Zond 3 orbiting over the Moon, with a depiction of a pair of "Zond-5" type vehicles orbiting together over the lunar surface. The series was issued prior to Soviet authorities allowing the actual configuration of the Zonds 5-8 series being released to the general public. A significant proportion of the poster series focused upon Soviet manned lunar exploration, as well as exploration of the outer planets via projected Soviet spacecraft.
