Minuteman Guidance Replacement Program (GRP) (U)
Overview (U):
(U) The Minuteman Guidance Replacement Program (GRP) replaces failing guidance system electronics in the current Minuteman III ICBM force, and preserves the option to configure the missiles with the Peacekeeper Mk 21 reentry vehicle and an advanced inertial measurement unit. The Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) contract was awarded to Rockwell International in August 1993. GRP includes the EMD, production, and installation of replacement guidance components to extend the life of the operational Minuteman III force.

Description (U):
(U) The GRP will replace the 1960's generation guidance electronics to insure reliability, maintainability, supportability, and nuclear surety for Minuteman III. The program maintains the current guidance accuracy requirement for Minuteman III, and will help maintain the system through 2020. The GRP is slated to replace many of the items within the missile guidance set including the missile guidance set control, the missile guidance computer, the amplifier assembly, and some of the general support equipment.
User Impact (U):
(U) Ongoing Minuteman life extension efforts are required to extend the life of the Minuteman missile. The Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC) validated the Mission Need Statement (MNS) for a Future Guidance System for ICBMs on 5 November 1992.
