Ground-Based Radar Prototype (U)
Overview (U):
(U) The Ground Based Radar Prototype (GBR-P) is the first phase in the GBR program and is a X-band mechanically slewed phased array radar fire control sensor which provides the precision discrimination and interceptor fire control support necessary to the National Missile Defense (NMD) system. This GBR-P will be installed at USAKA/KMR in FY 98, and will be available as part of the FY99 NMD integrated system test.

Description (U):
(U) The Ground Based Radar Prototype (GBR-P) is the primary fire control sensor for the National Missile Defense (NMD) System test and evaluation. GBR-P provides surveillance, acquisition, tracking, discrimination, fire control support and kill assessment for the National Missile Defense (NMD) system. Prior to commitment of interceptors, the radar performs surveillance autonomously or as cued by other sensors, and will acquire, track, classify/identify and estimate trajectory parameters for targets. In post-commit, the radar will discriminate and track the target(s), and provide via the In-Flight Interceptor Communications System (IFICS) an In-Flight Target Update (IFTU) and a Target Object Map (TOM) to the interceptor(s). The GBR-P is a critical, stepping stone toward cost effective and timely U.S. NMD deployment.
