Command Post Terminals (CPTs) (U)

Overview (U):

(U) The Air Force Command Post Terminals (CPTs) are designed to be rugged, reliable and to survive extreme environments, including modern conventional and nuclear warfare. They provide secure, jam resistant voice, data and teletype communications to both tactical and strategic commanders. CPTs can be used on airborne, fixed ground sites and transportable sites. These terminals are fully compatible with Milstar EHF, UHF and SHF band capabilities currently in development for Milstar. The terminals are also backwards compatible with AFSATCOM terminals.

Description (U):

(U) Command Post Terminals (CPT) contain mission and test software of over 400,000 lines of code to support the satellite communications requirements of the National Command Authority (NCA) and CINC command centers, as well as serving as the conduit for the real-time warning data from sensor sites. Fixed (AN/FRC-181 (V1)) and Transportable (AN/TRC-194(V1)) terminals will permit high capacity command post operations over EHF and UHF communications satellites. The airborne terminals support the STRATCOM Looking Glass mission and the E-4B NAOC mission. Airborne terminals also operate on the Navy's TACAMO (Take Charge and Move 'Em Out) aircraft. The terminals have a mission control segment interface and the ability to perform full beam management.

User Impact (U):

(U) The Command Post Terminals provide the NCA, CINCs, and MAJCOMs for the first time with the capability to conduct their missions of Emergency Action Message and, Force Direction Message Dissemination, Reportback, CINCNET operations, and Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment through jamming and the effects of High altitude Electro Magnetic Pulse (HEMP) attacks.
