Talon SHOOTER (U)

Overview (U):

(FOUO) Talon SHOOTER is one of eight functional areas under the Air Force TENCAP Program to exploit the tactical use of existing national systems. Talon SHOOTER focuses on delivering enhanced real-time and near-real-time National systems intelligence to aircraft cockpits, and/or to the weapons carried on the aircraft. Projects are characterized as either Real-Time Information Into the Cockpit (RTIC) or Real-Time Information Out of the Cockpit (RTOC). Talon SHOOTER seeks to develop automated information update capabilities from aircrew pre-flight briefing through full mission flight profile (ingress, over target, and egress).

(FOUO) There are no ongoing FY98 Talon SHOOTER projects. For FY99, Talon SHOOTER will execute Project BULLSEYE.

Description (U):

(FOUO) Project BULLSEYE derives highly accurate geo-coordinates from various types of imagery by automated fusion of multiple images. One technique combines multiple images to reduce random errors in the image support data; another technique controls images more accurately. BULLSEYE provides aids to 1) predict achievable geolocation accuracy, 2) establish data-collection requirements to meet desired accuracy and 3) select services to generate common output products.

(U) Organizations and Funding:
  • (U) Air Force-Space Warfare Center: Funding Source.
Talon SHOOTER is funded by PE 27247F. HQ SWC will provide funding to the National community to develop a user interface for BULLSEYE and eventual integration into common USAF software and hardware architectures. BULLSEYE's success as a warfighter tool is dependent upon its integration into the Joint Targeting Toolbox (JTT), which will ultimately be integrated into the Theater Battle Management Core System (TBMCS). HQ SWC is forming an Integrated Product Team (IPT) made up of representatives from the National community, Rome Labs, developers of JTT, and ESC, which is overseeing TBMCS development. This IPT will ensure the smooth transition of BULLSEYE into these common systems.
