Russia's Defense Ministry established contact with it's latest satellite after it has been placed into target orbit.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia's newest defense satellite launched on Tuesday has been put into orbit and contact has been established, the Defense Ministry reported.
"Stable telemetric contact has been set up and is being supported with the space apparatus and the on-board systems are functioning normally," the ministry said.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, a Russian Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket laden with the newest defense satellite was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the country's northwest.
The Defense Ministry added that the satellite has been put into its target orbit and control has been passed to the Titov Main Space Center of Russia's Space Forces. After control was passed on, the satellite acquired the name of "Kosmos-2510."
