Military: Missing USAF woman found alive
(CNN) -- A U.S. Air Force major missing since Tuesday in Kyrgyzstan has been found alive, the military said Saturday.
Authorities in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, found Maj. Jill Metzger and notified the U.S. Embassy and military at 1:15 a.m. Saturday (3:15 p.m. ET Friday), the military said.
No further details regarding Metzger's recovery were immediately released.
A team of doctors will determine her condition, and the investigation into her disappearance is ongoing.
Metzger, whose home unit is the 347th Mission Support Squadron at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia, was last seen Tuesday, shopping in Bishkek with others from the Manas Air Base, the military has said. (Full story)
She was on temporary duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing.
The 376th "provides combat air support and airlift for forces in Afghanistan as well as aerial refueling of coalition aircraft," according to GlobalSecurity.org.
"We are elated to have Jill back with us," Col. Scott Reese, commander of the 376th, said in the statement.
"I want to praise the Kyrgyzstan government, Bishkek law enforcement officials and the cooperation of the U.S. Embassy team for the rapid and thorough investigation resulting in the successful recovery of Major Metzger," he said.
