189 shipyard- The place where big ships are built

From a small shipyard with the task of repairing and maintaining military vessels, after 30 years, Z189 Shipyard (Ministry of Defense) has built dozens of modern military ships for the Vietnam People's Army to serve. patrol and control the sovereignty protection of the sea and island boundaries and a series of shipbuilding contracts for foreign partners, including military ships. On the historic Bach Dang River in Dinh Vu peninsula, Dong Hai 2 ward, Hai An district (Hai Phong city), Z189 Shipyard likes a great construction site. Dozens of military ships, cargo ships, yachts with value of hundreds of millions of dollars are under construction and others are waiting for a coming day to push off.

Colonel Nguyen Van Dieu - Deputy Director of the Z189 Shipyard said: Previously, the unit had built many kinds of transport, high-speed patrol, amphibious ships, commanding training, rescuing self-balance boat and types of workboat ... serving defense tasks. However, it is still not possible to meet the requirements of the military in the new situation, so the company has determined to invest all resources in design reaseach, training courses tobe able to built big size vessel. So many ships with 20m longer, nearly 100m long, equipped with modern weapons in turn have been push off from 189 yard, which has made an important contribution to the protection of Vietnam's maritime and sovereignty. 189 shipyard was established on January 17, 1989, with the task of building and repairing water vehicles for national defense and business duties. Coast Guard ship 8004 belongs to DN-2000 fleet built by 189 shipyard. Over 30 years of construction and development, generations of shipyard officials and workers have always striven to overcome difficulties and enthusiasm for production, contributing to military construction and economic development In addition to building and repairing military ships, the shipyard is always proactive in seeking and expanding its customer source, investing with institutes, consulting, design and research companies to develop a variety of economic products. In recent years, shipyard has been the shipyard with the largest and most stable number of shipbuilding contracts of the General Department of Defense Industries in particular and the shipbuilding industry in general. The shipyard has built many new-building commercial products, such as: shiplift platforms for Nosco-Vinalines Ship Repair Company (the largest shiplift platform in Southeast Asia, the second largest in Asia. ); pilot ship; port authority ships; cruise ship; catamaran passenger ships with a capacity of up to 600 passengers, reaching a speed of 35 knots. In particular, the f shipyard has promoted the strength of technological capacity, promoted cooperation, built dozens of high-value ships for export to markets in Europe, Australia, and the Americas, of which there are modern specialized ships with international standard, such as submarine rescue ships, air aviation training ships, crew supply vessels, ... These are modern ships with complex designs and high technical request. In particular, the submarine rescue ships with a displacement of 3,200-3,600 tons, are modern submarine rescue ships built for the Australian Navy. So far, the shipyard has built and delivered over 60 ships of all kinds exported to the Americas and Europe. With the policy of investing in the right direction, in addition to repairing small and medium sized ships, the shipyard has built new types of military ships, patrol boats, transport ships, fishing ships and cargo ships in alluminium, steel,.. At the same time, to concentrate on researching and successfully building many new modern ships and boats to meet national defense and security requirements. 189 shipyard’s officials and engineers is checking the design drawing of a new-building ship. In particular, the shipyard has successfully researched, tested, built new ship and high-class aluminum alloy boats in Vietnam, becoming the brand of 189 shipyard The shipyard has successfully completed the task of successfully building many types of modern military ships with high and complex technical requirements, modern weapons, long operation at sea, it is newly built in Vietnam, such as: K122 troop carrier (571); military ship K123 (561) - dubbed the "Hospital on the Sea"; Multifunctional Coast Guard vessels CSB8001 and CSB8004 as the largest and most modern vessels in Southeast Asia, are equipped with unmatched maritime equipment on Vietnamese ships. At the same time, the shipyard has repaired hundreds of military ships for the Coast Guard, the Navy, the Border Guard, ... contributing to firmly protecting the sovereignty of sea and islands of the Fatherland. For sustainable development, the factory identifies high quality human resources and modern technology, equipment and technologies as a key and fundamental factor, determining competitiveness, capacity, production efficiency, and business. Currently, the shipyard has the high-skilled workers; Welder team with International Class society’s welder certificate . Along with investing in procurement of modern machinery and equipment with high automation, the shipyard also promotes research, promotion of innovation, technical innovation and application of science and technology, new technology into production. In addition, the shipyard is the first military shipyard to be certified by the Bureau of Standards-Metrology-Quality in accordance with ISO 9001-2015 standards; HALYARD RISK BV of the Netherlands assessed it to rank B on the A-E rank. With these achievements, 189 shipyard has been awarded many noble prizes, many gold cups and gold medals in the international exhibitions in Vietnam and shipbuilding industry. In 2018, the factory was honored to be awarded the Second-class Labor Medal and the emulation flag of the Ministry of Defense.
