Established on March 19, 1957 under the name of Factory Z1, then Factory V111 and now is Co., Ltd. Precision Engineering 11 (Factory Z111). To have a superficial property today, the factory has had to undergo 4 relocation times. Each time dismantling, ensuring safety for thousands of tons of equipment, machinery and materials; moving hundreds of families with thousands of people, Factory Z111 entered a new period of construction.

Recalling the difficult days of the factory, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Bien, Political Chairman of Z111 factory said that from the beginning, the factory had taken on a great responsibility of production, contributing to ensuring equipment and weapons. gas for our army in the war against the US, to save the great country and to build and defend the country today. According to Senior Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Quoc Vinh, Director of Z111 Factory, in the condition of limited production targets for defense products, economic sources are under fierce competition pressure, to overcome difficulties, the factory has firmly held the position functions and tasks, closely following the above guidelines and orientations, promoting economic cooperation, diversifying products to maintain and develop production. Accordingly, on the one hand, the factory actively manufactures and repairs defense products according to the mission targets, along with speeding up investment projects to improve defense production capacity. Since 1999, the factory has successfully manufactured many new types of guns and high-beam cannons. These are all new weapons, with high technical requirements, with a lot of detail. “The research, design and production of new defense products mark the development of the Z111 Factory in the field of defense manufacturing.

Notably, since 2011, the factory started to deploy an investment project for an infantry gun production line. This is a large-scale project, transferring foreign technology, modern synchronous equipment, and advanced production technology. In the process of implementation, many difficulties have arisen, but up to now, the factory has completely owned the technological line for the production of infantry guns meeting international standards. The success of the project opens a new way for Z111, to meet the goal of modernizing weapons and equipment for the training army and SSC, proceeding to export products. Up to now, the factory has signed a frame contract to export gun details with a number of foreign partners.

In order to take advantage of the production line capacity, the factory promotes cooperation with agencies and units of the armed forces to research, design, and manufacture weapons, weapon replacement parts, technical equipment, models, training tools, spare parts ... The factory also strengthened cooperation with traditional partners in the oil and gas industry, cement, food industry ... to produce supplying high quality specialized mechanical products to replace imported goods. At the same time, the factory boosted investment in stone exploitation and processing lines; manufacturing household and industrial plastic. These activities initially meet the goal of expanding the business lines and promoting the economic production development of the factory.

Efforts and efforts in directing, managing and organizing the implementation have helped Z111 Factory exceed the targets and plans for the period 2015-2020. Total revenue in the past 5 years reached nearly 2,940 billion VND, increased 94.8% compared to the period 2010-2015, profit reached 115.4 billion VND, increased 93.1%, paid to the state budget reached more than 185 billion VND. an increase of 96.8% compared to the period 2010-2015. Notably, the total value of revenue in the production of economic goods in the period 2015-2020 reached more than 1,068 billion VND, an increase of more than 296% compared to the 2010-2015 period. Average income per capita in the first 6 months of 2020 will reach 12.8 million VND / person / month, an increase of 61.6% compared to 2015.

For the Z111 factory, the task of promoting economic production and exporting defense products is identified as one of the two breakthrough stages of the 2020-2025 term. According to Major Dang Duy Thai, Deputy Director of the factory, in fact, the defense products of the factory in particular, the General Department of Defense in general have certain competitive factors, suitable for the regional market and world. With products being the world's leading modern guns such as Galil ACE, STL-A1 gun, the Z111 factory became the leading flag in the Vietnamese industry. This is one of the first military weaponry units of the Ministry of National Defence to well perform the two tasks of national defense and security protection and economic development over the past years. Factory Z111 is headquartered in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam. It specializes in manufacturing light arms for the People's Army of Vietnam. Factory 1 of the Z111 factory is a co-operation project to transfer production of Galil ACE infantry guns from Israel Weapon Industries Corporation (IWI) and is directed and owned by the Ministry of Defense of Vietnam.

The first weapon built / refurbished by the Z111 Factory was the M-18 , a Vietnamese version of the CAR-15 since 2010. They are used by staff and officers of Vietnamese special forces under the Vietnam Coast Guard. On 3 February 2014, IWI signed a contract with Vietnam to manufacture Galil ACE under license. Production is performed in a joint production facility. An improved version of the locally produced K-54 handgun under the name "K14-VN". K14-VN began service with the People's Army of Vietnam on May 10, 2014.

In 2015, the Z111 Plant announced that it would manufacture the STL-1A rifle. This will mainly be done through modifications and upgrades to old AKMs under new names. Modifications to the rifle include a new polymer handle, a folding grip, an ergonomic handgun handle and a bounce brake similar to the one on the AK-74. One notable change is that it can be compatible with the M203 grenade launcher also being produced in Vietnam, replacing the GP-25 / GP-34 on the prototype AKM. In general, the STL-1A is very similar to the AK-103.

After mastering the technology of manufacturing AKM assault rifles, the engineers of the Z111 defense plant have improved the AKM with many changes such as: plastic folding flat like AK-103, plastic armrest with ray to mount grenade launchers, the muzzle head is similar to the AK-103, and the rail is mounted on the optical weapon. A future upgrade, called the STL-1B, will include the picatinny rail system. This will allow for an optical or electronic viewfinder to be mounted on the gun. As of January 2018, OSV-96 was reported to be manufactured under license in Vietnam.

Vietnam was the first and only country to be fully equipped with the 7.62x39mm version of the Galil ACE. Not only the STL-A1, the Z111 factory also successfully produced the Galil ACE gun and prepared to release a new version of the Galil ACE 32 gun.
