Tur [Tour] BMP
Private defense company "KORT", which is a member of the Association of Armament and Military Equipment Manufacturers of Ukraine , has developed a new caterpillar infantry combat vehicle BMP "TUR", which by its characteristics exceeds the Soviet BMP-1 and BMP-2.
The BMP is designed to transport personnel of mechanized units of the ground forces and their fire support in combat, is able to perform its functions around the clock in hot and cold climate zones regardless of the season and weather conditions, when operating on roads with different coverages, and also in off-road conditions. The crew of BMP "TUR" consists of a commander, a driver mechanic and a combat module operator, as well as an assault force.
The BMP will use the "Parus" and "Desna" combat modules equipped with a 30-mm cannon, a PKT machine gun, an automatic grenade launcher and anti-tank missiles.
"Taking into account the main tasks of the BMP - a protected infantry vehicle on the battlefield and supporting the infantry during combat, the BMP proposed will be able to effectively provide the following fire functions: suppression of infantry and anti-tank weapons of destruction of the enemy and destruction of enemy armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles and tanks" commented the development of the president of the Association Vadim Kodachigov.
He also added that the combat experience of the BMP-1 and BMP-2 operation during the anti-terrorist operation in the east of Ukraine was taken into account when developing the BMP "TUR".
Tur was under consideration in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Army is in need of compensation for BVP-1 and BVP-2, but the money plays a crucial role. However, BVP Tur has an interesting export potential, as there are several thousand MT-LBs in the world - eventual export of BVP Tur but is conditioned, as everywhere in the world, by taking a vehicle to domestic armed forces.
The BVP Tur is not a completely new development vehicle, but uses modified platforms of the MT-LB Soviet Armored Belt Transporter . This is mainly due to the easy accessibility of the MT-LB chassis - about 1,500 to 2,000 MT-LB vehicles are in the Ukrainian warehouse (of course in a vague technical condition). Kort thus wants not only to accelerate the development of the new belt BPP, but also to push its price to the maximum.
The MT-LB was developed in the Soviet Union at the end of the 1960s, manufactured in many armed and unarmed versions, and still remains, for its simplicity and its driving qualities, a favorite military transport vehicle in many countries. The MT-LB itself (in the version of the armored carrier) is characterized by very good passability in the field. Its empty weight is only 11,900 kg and its belts are 350 mm wide - thanks to this combination, the specific ground pressure is very low (0,45 kg / cm2).
The modified MT-LB chassis created a brand new body. The designers have chosen to maintain the original MT-LB configuration - in the front there is a crew compartment, a power unit located behind it, a battlefield with a tower and a landing space. The crew of the BVP Tur consists of a commander, shooter and driver and landing a maximum of eight soldiers. It is unclear whether there is a space in the front area for the entire three-man crew, or the shooter / commander is in the combat area under the tower. The vehicle can mount in a turret a 30mm automatic cannon, a 7.62mm machine gun, a container with anti-tank missiles (PTRS) or an automatic grenade launcher.
