PD-2

On June 15–18, 2021, the only event in Ukraine in the field of aviation and space technologies – Aviasvit-XXI International Aviation and Space Salon – took place at the International Exhibition Centre. Aviation industry of Ukraine was traditionally represented by booths of industry leaders and numerous booths of public and private enterprises. The real trend of the exhibition in 2021 was a large number of companies that presented unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of various types and purposes.

Ukrainian manufacturer of UAVs and ground equipment for unmanned aerial vehicles, Ukrspecsystems, presented PD-2 UAV. After analyzing the experience gained in the East of Ukraine and the feedback from users and partners, the company created a high-tech and versatile product that can operate in severe weather conditions in any part of the world. Thanks to vertical takeoff and landing technology, the ability to integrate various mission equipment and a number of advanced features, PD-2 is the perfect solution for aerial reconnaissance tasks.

The PD-2 strike drone, based on the PD-1 reconnaissance drone (People Drone), is a Ukrainian modular unmanned complex developed by the People's Project All-Ukrainian Volunteer Center and UkrSpecSystems. It received the shock functions of the BB carrier (in two containers under the wings, a total of 8 kg), a new engine, as well as the function of vertical takeoff and landing.

The State Research Institute for Testing and Certification of Weapons and Military Equipment of Ukraine conducted defining departmental tests of the new Ukrainian UAV "PD-2" in November 2020. THe PD-2 is designed to conduct aerial reconnaissance in the infrared and optical range at any time of the day and adjust artillery fire. Reportedly, test scientists conduct testing in three stages: laboratory, ground and flight. During them, the combat, operational and technical characteristics of the aviation complex were evaluated.

It should be noted that the development of this device was carried out by the private company UkrSpecSystems. The updated prototype has a number of quality improvements compared to its first modification. In particular, it has the ability to use quick-change modules with additional electric motors, which allows the UAV to perform vertical takeoff and landing. Also, on board there is its own optoelectronic system, similar to the systems of the Turkish UAV BayraktarTB2. The highlight of the complex is a wide range of used types of ammunition, which significantly expands the scope of the complex.

The PD-2 UAV is equipped with a modern Ukrainian-made gyro-stabilized platform.
