KBTZ State Enterprise "Kyiv Armored Factory"

Russian planes bombed a tank repair plant in the Darnytskyi District in Kiev on 16 April 2022. It was reported that many police and soldiers surrounded the area, it was reported that smoke rose from the area where a factory where tank production was located. Russia destroyed production buildings of an armored vehicle plant in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. The Russian Ministry of Defense also announced on Telegram that the production facility of the factory was hit in the attack with "high-precision long-range weapons". Ukrainian officials have not yet confirmed the attack.

State Enterprise "Kyiv Armored Factory" is a state-owned commercial enterprise established on state property. Regulation, control and coordination of the Company's activities are carried out by the State Concern "Ukroboronprom" as an authorized business entity for the management of state property in the defense industry.

Among the enterprises for repair of armored vehicles of Ukraine SE "KBTZ" is the most powerful with an annual production of 80-100 million UAH. Production shops and sections in accordance with the production technology are equipped with high-performance technological equipment. Today the Kyiv Armored Plant State Enterprise carries out: overhaul and modernization of tanks T-55, T-62, T-72, self-propelled chassis of art systems "Acacia", "Tulip", "Geocin", self-propelled chassis of missile systems "Circle", Caterpillar mini-barriers“ GMZ ”, wheeled armored personnel carriers BTR-70, BTR-80 and cars based on them, tank engines of all brands.

In addition, in recent years the production of spare parts for the repair of armored vehicles at the customer's plants has significantly expanded. Rubber hinged tracks, chassis parts and components, water, oil and fuel systems, dynamic protection kits, electrical and wiring kits, electrical appliances and others are mass-produced.

In recent years, the company is focused on the manufacture and supply of products for foreign customers. A great achievement is the preparation in a short time of production and release of samples of armored personnel carriers BTR-3U, BTR-3E1, BTR-DA with new engines of domestic and imported production, automatic transmission and combat modules.

A separate area of the plant's activity is training in all necessary specialties at the plant, as well as providing services for the development of overhaul of armored vehicles and commissioning of equipment at the customer's plants.

The high achievements of the enterprise in the field of overhaul of equipment and diesel engines are provided by the well-developed production infrastructure, a group of shops and sections for the repair of armored weapons and equipment, developed over many years of work:

  • repair and mechanical shop;
  • engine repair shop;
  • building repair section;
  • shop for repair and manufacture of parts;
  • workshop for repair and manufacture of units;
  • shop for the manufacture of electrical equipment and weapons;
  • caterpillar production site;
  • tool section;
  • non-standard equipment section;
  • repair and construction site.

The flows, which clearly function, make it possible to implement high-quality and in a timely manner complex programs for the manufacture, overhaul and deep modernization of armored weapons and equipment. The body of armored vehicles (tanks, etc.) is one of the most difficult to work with. When carrying out repairs (additional equipment of new armored personnel carriers) not only restoration of geometrical parameters is carried out, but also a complex of works on increase of their protection is carried out.

At repair of turrets works on installation of a complex of additional protection are carried out:

  • additional armored items;
  • dynamic protection kit;
  • anti-radiation sheets.

During the manufacture of turrets, the entire complex of installation of units and weapons control systems is carried out and the compliance of parameters, signals and commands given by them is checked.

High-quality repair of basic weapons and equipment: smoothbore and rifled guns caliber 100, 125 mm. Assembly of combat vehicles is carried out in the assembly shop on the current line and consists in coordinated work on the installation of the chassis, power plant, components and units, pipelines of all systems, cable assemblies and wires. In parallel, work is underway on the installation of the turret, installation of guns, devices and fire control systems, calibration of sights. After installation of the turret in the body of the machine (APC) are transferred to the delivery site, where they are brought to the requirements of the contract.

Based on the fact that over the past 10-12 years the company is focused on manufacturing products for foreign partners, and marketing has shown that this trend will continue in the future and the management of the State Enterprise "Kyiv Armored Plant" in November 2006 decided:

  • to increase the authority of the enterprise (image) in the world arms trade market;
  • for investment attractiveness;
  • providing significant advantages in tenders over competitors;
  • improving the quality of products and production culture on the existing quality management system of the enterprise to develop and implement a system that would meet the requirements of the international standard ISO 9001: 2000 and the national standard DSTU ISO 9001: 2001.

Based on the fact that for the last 10 - 12 years the company is focused on manufacturing products for foreign partners and marketing has shown that this trend will continue in the future by the company's management, in November 2006 a strategic decision was made to increase the company's reputation. )) in the global arms trade market, its investment attractiveness, opportunities for cooperation, providing significant advantages in tenders over competitors and improving the quality of products and production culture for the existing management system, develop and implement a system that meets international ISO standards 9001: 2000.

During December 2006 - April 2007, thanks to the competence, decisive actions of the company's administration, heads of departments and staff in general, a quality management system was created, documented and implemented in accordance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 9001: 2000.

The appearance of the new edition of ISO 9001 in 2008 and the decision of ISO together with the IAF adopted rules for the transition to a new version of the ISO standard (after 14.11.2010, any existing certification for compliance with ISO 9001: 2000 will be considered invalid), so the company's management it was decided to take measures to prepare the existing quality management system, recertify the system in accordance with the requirements of the new version of the ISO 9001: 2008 standard.
