The AN-38D aircraft is a modification of the AN-38 light multipurpose aircraft. It is intended for fulfillment of parachuted and air landed delivery of army contingent, the training jumps with parachute, transportation of wounded and military cargoes. At an air paradropping the aircraft provides: placement of 22 paratroopers with the complete military calculation; bailing out tail door in one line of paratroopers at a speed of 170-250 km/h from attitude of up to 3000 m. At air landed delivery it provides transportation of 26 soldiers. Number of transported casualties: 6 persons on stretchers or 9 on seats. The aircraft has the following variants of application: aerial delivery, transport of contingent, cargo and ambulance ones.
The AN-38D can be operated independently from/into small airfields having a non-rigid surface i.e. soil, ice and snow-covered airfields, within a wide range of airdrome altitudes and variety of climatic conditions, in normal or adverse weather conditions. It is fitted with oxygen equipment for three crew members for ferry flights at attitudes of up to 6000 m. The covering of the aircraft floor excludes sliding of the paratroopers during dropping. For landing operation the aircraft is equipped with a manually-driven overhead track with lifting capacity of up to 500 kg.
Aerial delivery equipment consists of: complete set of airborne folding seats for accommodation of paratroopers; static cables of the compulsory enforcement for parachute system; connector link for parachute dropmaster; light and sound signalling to paratroopers; stick interrupter; adapters precluding hang-up of paratroopers on the static link; complete set of tie-down equipment for fastening of cargoes.
The aircraft potentialities allow to use it for operations in force majeure situations, as well as for urgent, or special tasks, namely: delivery of cargoes and people (rescue crews) to a place of disaster; evacuation of casualties and medical patients; air delivery of rescue crew directly to disaster location; ecological monitoring of emergency situation area and adjacent zones.
