Wing 21
The role of Wing 21 in Ubon Ratchathani . Province began in June 1921 when the smallpox and the cholerabroke out in Amphoe Warin Chamrab the doctors and medical equipment were sent by carriers to Ubon Ratchathani .Province therefore the airfield was established at that time.During the Indochinese - the General East - Asia war Dispute the field Air Corps was station at the front line airfield. Until the dispute was ended but no pernament Air Corps was established.
On June 4,1962 The Royal Thai Air Force established the 22 nd field combined squadron at Tambon Patum Amphoe Muang Ubon Ratchathani Province.The southern part of the airfield is closed to the town.
There are the T - 6 in service.The air base was named "Ubon Ratchathani Air Base" October 5,1962 and November 3,1962 the T - 6 were phased out and the T - 28D . Trojans took their place. 1968 the 22 nd field combined squadron was renamed to the 222 nd field combined squadron.
October 1,1977 Ubon Ratchathani Air Base has been renamed to Wing 21 and the 222 nd Squadron has been renamed to 211st squadron. Wing 21 has regarded the first of October as its anniversary.
On June 16,1980 . The squadron of A - 37B from Wing 4 at Takli was assigned to replace the old T - 28D Trojans .In 1990 The Royal Thai Air Force established the Air Division therefore.
Wing 21 is under the control of 2 nd Air Division Air Combat Command on May 4,1990.
On April 1,1994 Wing 21 was provided with super sonic fighter F - 5E/F to replace the A - 37B which were phased out. On October 1,1996 The Royal Thai Air Force reorganized its structure.Wing 21 is under the direct control of 2 nd Air Division Air Combat Command. and equipped with F - 5E/F .
