G-4 Super Galeb

Based on the technology mastered in Yugoslav military industry during tech development of orao aircraft model, in 1974. the development of training/fighter G-4 (N-62) galeb aircraft. The first prototype of the trainer-fighter G-4 SUPER GALEB took off on 17 June 1978. Although it kept the name GALEB, the G-4 represented a completely new airplane, unlike the G-2 version. With remarkable maneuvering capabilities, excellent behavior at high attack angles and spins, with arrow-like wings, favorably shaped fuselage, hydraulic commands for wings and tail and with good ergonomics, SUPER GALEB is adapted to high subsonic and slightly transonic speeds in a broad range of altitude, which allows the pilot training in similar fighting conditions.

The robust landing gear enables taking off from grass runways, while starting rockets and braking parachutes provide short-distance take-off and landing if necessary. With solid rocket and gun weaponry, the G-4 proved to be good for fire support and for fight against helicopters.

Two prototypes and six basic aircraft models which were modified into target towing aircrafts with developed which were modified into target towing aircraft bearing designation N-62T. In the period 1984-1991 77 N-62 air crafts were made for the Yugoslav air Force. Today SAF AirForce has 25 N-62 air crafts. In 1999 one of these planes was upgraded to G-4M.

Super Galeb G-4 is a tandem - seat low-wing single-engine trainer/ground attack aircraft designed for modern basic/advanced training and ground support. It is a highly modified derivative of the Galeb G-2, which is currently used as a trainer. The Galeb's wings are low-mounted and slightly tapered. The fuel tanks are generally mounted at the square tips on the Galeb, though not on the Super Galeb. There is one turbojet engine inside body. There are semicircular air intakes alongside the body extending from the rear of, and below, the canopy. The fuselage is rounded, tapered to the rear, and has a round nose. The aircraft has a bubble canopy. The rear of canopy is flush with the dorsal spine. The tail flats low-mounted on the tail fin, equally tapered with square tips. The fin is swept-back and tapered with a blunt tip.
