Sora self-propelled 122mm Howitzer
The SORA (self-propelled artillery system), designed by the VTI’s experts, a modernized 122 mm howitzer D-30 mounted on the modified platform of the FAP 2026 6x6 terrain vehicle. This artillery system, with a 5-member crew, has the overall weight of 16,500kg and the operational range of over 500km. The maximum range is over 15,000m and the fire rate is 6 rounds/m. It is intended for the fire support of units up to the brigade level.
Unlike the Nora, the 122 mm self-propelled Howitzer Sora is intended for general fire support at the brigade level unit. It is designed to meet the contemporary battlefield requirements, which means the principle Gun and Run is scheduled as the basic operation type of this weapon. Sora was manufactured by an open installation of parts and units movable along the 122 mm D30J Howitzer action line on a modified basic truck FAP 2026 BS/AV.
The weapon has automatic operation systems, such as navigation system, automatic charger and aiming line, etc. The highest moving speed 80 km/h on the asphalt road and 20 km/h on the gravel one. The number of gunners – three. Besides the automatic feeding and a combat kit of 40 different-purpose rounds, the weapon has a system for automatic combat to march position switching.
