J-20 "Kraguj"
The J-20 "Kraguj" [Sparrowhawk] aircraft was developed in the early 1960s. Soon after the G-2, the Military Technical Institute [VTI] designed and developed the light fighting piston-propeller aircraft J-20 KRAGUJ. The airplane was intended as a fire support to ground units and for combat against helicopter landing troops. This light airplane armed with two 12.7 mm machineguns and two 57 mm rocket launchers with 12 rockets, could even take off from meadows.
The project was developed by the VTI Žarkovo, and was produced at the FA "Soko" Mostar - a total of 43 aircraft. The first prototype took off piloted by Humar Rudolf on 21 November 1962 in Mostar. The weapon entered service with the Air Force in the beginning of March 1967. All manufactured copies of the first batch of 14 were delivered and introduced into operational service by the end of July of that year. Equipping the Air Force with the second batch started in mid-April in 1977, and was completed in late July of the same year - from the "SOKO" the Air Force received 27 aircraft.
At the operational use of YAF there were up to in 1989 when the remaining aircraft deliver mainly RŠTO Slovenia and Montenegro. Although the primary purpose was action against ground targets and slower air targets, it could be adapted to serve as a medical airplane towing a glider tests were performed to adjust for the use in agriculture of spraying. The YAF used to train reservists RV. Nowadays a number of these aircraft fly abroad and in Serbia as "old-timers."
