Tu-136 VSTOL Project

In 1963-1964 the Tupelov Bureau made a preliminary study of the project of the front subsonic fighter aircraft vertical takeoff and landing (GDP). The work carried out on its own initiative on the orders of Tupolev. In a short time in the CB was prepared preliminary technical proposal for the car, which received the designation by CB plane "136" and the Tu-136.

For aircraft "136" layout scheme was selected, the project is similar to the British Hawker Siddeley P.1127 (predecessor Harrier) and the draft CB AS Yakovlev "Yak-B" (Yak-36): vysokoplan with a small delta wing of low aspect ratio.

Semi-monocoque fuselage and wing spars with flaps. Engine with rotary nozzles placed in the central part of the fuselage. Such an arrangement of the power plant has led to the use of the bicycle chassis with two-wheeled unicycle bow and back support. The wing supports were removed against the direction of flight in the fairing. airframe design was typical for the aircraft at the time. Variable sweep wing leading edge: in root parts 60 , in the console -45 . The semicircular unregulated air intake located in the forward fuselage radar at a large fairing. The crew was one person.

According to the draft prepared preliminary materials and tactical model, which were presented to the Air Force. Further development of the project had not, although the plane could become a competitor samoletama vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) .Yak-36M for RCC Series 1143 "Kiev" USSR Navy.
