T-24 Medium Tank
This was the first tank to be developed by the designers of the Kharkiv Locomotive Plant on their own building on the experience gained during the manufacture and trials of the T-12 tank. The T-24 tank was the first fighting vehicle to be completely designed by efforts of the newly-established Tank Design Team of the Kharkiv Komintern Locomotive Plant. Assembly of the first tank started in 1931, and in the same year small quantities of T-24 tanks (25 vehicles) were manufactured. Thus, apart from the tank production facility which was available at the Bolshevik Plant in Leningrad, one more tank production centre emerged in the South of the country - the Kharkiv Komintern Locomotive Plant. By that time a special T2 shop had been built at the plant for tank manufacturing and assembling, and the independent T2K Tank Design Bureau headed by Ivan N. Aleksenko had been considerably enlarged. The core of that bureau was formed by the designers of the special Tank Design Team created as early as in December 1927, as well as by the designers who had participated in designing, manufacturing and testing of the T-12 and T-24 tanks.
After having been subjected to trials, the tank was accepted for service and manufactured in small numbers. The T-24 was used by the training tank units of the Red Army. Total production of the T-24 was 25 vehicles.
