Sukhoi Supersonic Passenger Aircraft (SPA)
Scientists of TsAGI, specialists of CIAM and the “New Sukhoi civil aircraft technologies” investigated jointly in 2009 the feasibility to create the next generation supersonic passenger aircraft (SPA) capable of supersonic cruise flights over populated territory. The project generated the tentative aerodynamic configurations for the business super-jet aircraft characterized by various passenger-comfort configurations and a seating capacity of 4-50 persons. Also specified are the guidelines to form the next generation supersonic passenger aircraft exterior.
Based on vast scientific experience, TsAGI estimated the aircraft aerodynamics, the weight, the flight performance characteristics, the eco-friendly properties (such as the noise level in the airport vicinity) and the sonic-boom level in supersonic cruise flight. The research performed demonstrated the feasibility of a reduction in the sonic boom level in supersonic cruise flight as compared to the first-generation SPAs. The requirements (currently in force) for noise levels in airport areas will also be met.
The supersonic administrative aircraft (business jet), the first in the modern history of Russia, can be designed for seven to eight years if there is a reserve on the engine, Tass learned from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. Such a plane can accommodate up to 50 people.

The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, manages the development and creation of all civil and military aircraft of the Russian Federation) is already developing a supersonic passenger aircraft in which the Tu-160 operating time can be used, the press service of the corporation reported.
In addition, in November 2017, Tupolev's deputy general director for design, research, and ROC Valery Solozobov informed TASS that the aircraft constructor was working to create a supersonic business jet for 25 passengers.
Russia is able to create a supersonic airplane on its own, without the participation of foreign partners. This opinion was expressed to TASS by the editor-in-chief of Aviaru Network Roman Gusarov. "Technologically, such a project is possible, Russia can create it without the participation of foreign partners, but in view of the high cost of implementing the project, it is necessary to study the market and understand whether there is sufficient potential demand for aircraft of this class that will pay back this project," - said Gusarov.
The Russian serial civil supersonic aircraft can be created by 2030, and in the near future a flying demonstrator may appear, the image of which is still being worked out. The result of research in recent years was the conceptual appearance of the aircraft, embodying compromise solutions for its integral aerodynamic layout. It was possible to get good aerodynamics, low fuel consumption, low noise and sound impact, which was not the case with the first generation of supersonic aircraft - Tu-144 and Concord.
"To date, we have made significant progress in supersonic technology, and we also understand much better how such an aircraft should look like which have consumer qualities. I think, before the flying prototype, we are separated for 10-15 years. In the near future, according to our plans, a flying demonstrator should appear, the image of which is being worked out. Its main task is to demonstrate the basic technologies of creating a supersonic airplane with a low level of sound impact. A serial supersonic airplane of a new generation may appear on the horizon of 2030", - said Sergey Chernyshev.
Chernyshev said "everyone is looking for new layout solutions. The design of our aircraft also looks very unusual. As a seagull in flight: a V-shaped wing with a large angle of the solution, a console with a smaller angle, but also with a V-shape, a fuselage with a curved central axis ... The engines are from above, and this is important, because the effect of the screen reduces the level of sound impact. Also, in the takeoff and landing mode, the "screen" also reduces the noise level from the engines. According to the work plan, a ground experiment on a real engine is envisaged to demonstrate the effect of the screen. We must confirm a noticeable decrease in jet noise due to reflection of acoustic disturbances from the flat surface of the tail section of the airframe.
"We are considering several options: an airplane for 12-16 passengers, also - for 60-80. There is a very small business jet for 6-8 passengers. These are different weights. In one case, the car will weigh about 50 tons, and in another - 100-120, etc. But we start with the first of the designated supersonic aircraft. "
