Ka-102

The Ka-102 is a prospective Russian helicopter, created by the design bureau of the Russian holding company Helicopters of Russia, which is a multipurpose aircraft, adapted to carry both cargo and people. The new Ka-102 project envisages the use of hingeless rigid rotors and separate propellers to ensure horizontal speed. One main rotor is placed in the front part of the fuselage, while the rotating screw in the opposite side of the fuselage is in the rear. Thus, the Ka-102 fuselage is similar to the Yakovlev Yak-24 transport helicopter that was once built, or the American Chinook that continues to be produced.

A high-speed helicopter of the longitudinal scheme Ka-102 was demonstrated for the first time at MAKS 2009. According to the data for 2015, the development of this aircraft is active. It is expected that Ka-102 will be able to pass its own first tests already in the first half of the 2020s, but given the rather high complexity of the project, this date may be postponed to a later date. If the project is successfully implemented, the Ka-102 in the future will be able to take on some of the functions currently performed by the heavy Mi-26 helicopter.

The president and general designer of Kamov, Sergei Mikheev said 18 August 2009 at MAKS-2009 "By developing the design of the Ka-92 helicopter, we found a number of new applications for high-speed helicopter technology, which is demonstrated by the idea of the Ka-102 high-speed helicopter, which we are demonstrating for the first time at MAKS 2009. According to our calculations, the Ka-102 will be capable of speeds of up to 500 kilometers per hour, while it will transport up to 80-90 passengers, have a takeoff weight of about 30 tons".

According to him, the technical solutions currently being worked out at Kamov should ensure an increase in the helicopter's flight speed from the current 300 km / h to about 500 km / h. "But we still have a lot to go in order to do this. "According to our estimates, the path from today's projects to the first flights, be it Ka-92 or Mi-11, can take at least 5-7 years," Mikheev said.

The Ka-102 helicopter has a rather unusual design that applies to the aerodynamic shape of the aircraft, and to a sequence of constructive answers that definitely contribute to the aircraft performance of this aircraft. In particular, the helicopter has four propellers, two of which supply the helicopter with vertical movement, and the second two - in the horizontal direction.

In general, the design of the aircraft is reminiscent of the design of the US military helicopter Boeing CH-47 Chinook, but this is more of an external design, but in essence, in technical design, both models are very different from each other. Unlike the Chinook, the Ka-102 will be able to fly much faster - thanks to the technical solutions, namely, hingeless rigid rigid screws with new control principles and additional screw propellers to ensure the horizontal component of the speed. According to Kamov calculations, the Ka-102 will be able to have a speed of up to 500 km/h. At the same time, it will transport up to 80-90 passengers, having a takeoff weight of about 30 tons. The compact-sized coaxial helicopter is good for transporting a relatively small number of passengers and cargo. And the longitudinal scheme allows to have a longer fuselage, in which a much larger number of passengers will comfortably be accommodated.

The long fuselage of the aircraft supplies the Ka-102 helicopter with good passenger capacity, moreover, the improved aerodynamic shape of the fuselage also provides a reduced resistance during the flight. The large take-off weight of the helicopter amounts to 30,000 kilograms, which for its part also provides the proper for this type of aircraft load capacity, which provides multi-purpose use. The power plant of the Ka-102 helicopter, in accordance with the proposed project of its creation, will consist of two gas turbine engines, but the true power of each of them at the moment is not disclosed by Russian aircraft builders. In addition to the other, it is assumed in addition that the long range of the flight of this helicopter can be about 1100 kilometers, which for its part will generally be able to satisfy future customers. The Ka-102 power plant is two gas-turbine engines which, by means of the transmission, rotate both rotors, as well as two pulling propellers (something like that was already realized half a century ago on the famous Ka-22 rotorcraft, which, however, was carried out on transverse scheme and could fly at a speed of 350 km/h). Thus, the philosophy is as follows: a rigid hingeless bearing screw and separate screw propellers to ensure a forward flight. The helicopter control system is equipped with a device that changes the rotational speed of the rotors. The blades are fixed firmly on the rotor hubs. Autopilot is made with the function of stabilizing the horizontal position of the fuselage.

With prior helicopters, as the speed of flight increases and the angle of inclination of the rotors increases, the phenomena of flow disruption on the blades lead to a decrease in the bearing capacity of the main rotors and the aerodynamic quality of the helicopter, to excessive growth of loads and stresses in the control system, that does not allow further increase in flight speed. In addition, the slope of the fuselage of the helicopter is increasing, leading to an additional increase in harmful resistance, which also significantly limits the possibility of increasing the maximum flight speed.

With this new design, as the speed of flight increases in the creation of a horizontal force, by the command of the pilot by means of the control levers and the device for changing the pitch of the blades of the propellers increase, and when a certain speed (200 km / h) is reached, only only the required lift ("airplane" flight mode). In this case, almost all the power of the motors is transferredy to the propellers. In this case, the rotational speed of the rotor screws in order to increase the aerodynamic quality of the longitudinal circuit helicopter is reduced by 20-30% with the help of a device for changing the rotational speed of the rotor.

The Ka-102 helicopter is considered primarily as a civil aircraft that allows transportation of 80 to 90 passengers at a high speed of 500 km/h. That for its part has no analogues in the world. In addition to carrying out the function of passenger transportation, the Ka-102 helicopter can also be actively used for transportation of all kinds of cargo, which is facilitated by a large indicator of cargo capacity, and it is not ruled out that the helicopter can then also be adapted for army needs, but, at the moment, this is not the case.
