Antonov "Yu" transport-airplane

In 1955, GSOKB-473, on an initiative basis, developed a project of a transport-landing aircraft, which received the designation "Yu" (the first with this name). The aircraft was intended for the transfer and airborne landing of troops (200 fighters with personal weapons and equipment), large-scale military equipment (with a mass of individual objects up to 20-25 tons). On the plane "Yu" in the sanitary version it is also possible to transport 160 patients or wounded.

This aircraft was a mono-plane all-metal construction with an 44 m wide wing and a double-deck fuselage 41 m long and equipped with two turbo-propellers TV-12 (prototype NK-12) with a take-off power of 12 500 liters each (in the future, it was planned to replace it with more powerful TV-14 engines) and coaxial propellers with a diameter of 5.8 m.

The front cabin of the crew had two decks, on the top of which there was a cockpit of pilots (two people), and on the lower - the cockpit of the remaining members crew (four people). On the upper deck there were front and rear hermetic cabins for soldiers or paratroopers. These cabins had in the cross-section the shape of an eight-placed on the side, the diameter of the rings is 2.3 m. The cockpit of the pilots is separated from the paratroopers by light partitions with doors.

In the middle part of the lower deck is a cargo compartment (length 16 m, width 3.9 m and height 2.8 m). In the rear part of the fuselage there is a machine-gun with a cannon installation for two 23 mm AM-23 guns. The parachuting of paratroopers (140 men) was carried out in three streams (in two rows): through the front landing doors in the cargo compartment floor, through the rear landing hatches in the floor of the upper deck near the cargo hatch and through the cargo hatch itself.

To create the possibility of parachute and landing landing of the combat equipment, the tail section of the fuselage was raised upwards and equipped with a large cargo hatch (width - 3.7 m), providing convenient and safe air and landing landing, as well as unhindered unloading of equipment during emergency landing of the aircraft on the fuselage unreleased chassis. This ensures the landing of all paratroopers on the site with a length of 1500 m.

The wing of the caisson type is divided into a center wing and detachable parts. To provide the aircraft with high takeoff and landing qualities, the wing is equipped with double-sloped retractable flaps. The main landing gear racks "Yu" are installed in the nacelle. Pneumatics of low-pressure wheels (p = 5 kg / cm2) ensure the operation of the machine on ground airfields.

According to calculations at a normal takeoff weight of 78 tons (the maximum take-off mass is 83 tons), the take-off run length is 625 meters, and the length of the run with landing without braking with screws is 725 meters. The practical range of flight "Yu" with a maximum load of 20 tons is 3500 kilometers, the maximum speed at an altitude of 8000 m (practical ceiling 11000 m) - 650-700 km / h.

The development of the project of the aircraft "Yu" was completed at the stage of preliminary design. By 1955, only a preliminary design was carried out.
