Antonov R-Type Desantno Transportnyiy
The Antonov type R-type airborne transport aircraft was designed to carry military cargo with a total mass of up to 3000 kg, capable of taking off from the shortened strips (run-up 200 m), to possess high operational qualities, especially convenience and speed of loading and unloading. Also, "P" could be used as a tug of landing gliders.
Structurally, "R" was a two-deck high-lift with two piston engines ASh-62IR. The main feature of the aircraft was a voluminous cargo cabin (length: 6.4 m, width: 2.55 m and height: 2.26 m) with a through passage formed when the nose and tail fairings are tilted sideways. The engines are located in a special engine compartment, located behind the cockpit on the upper deck of the fuselage. Transmission of torque to the screws is carried out by means of an angular transmission. This arrangement of the power plant allows the mechanic to service the engines directly in flight, and also creates comfortable conditions for repairs on land at night and in bad weather. The fuel was placed in the winged, tented tanks.
The wing is equipped with slats on the non-screwed wing sections and sliding flaps throughout the scope. To improve the patency, it is possible to attach instead of the wheels of a crawler or a ski chassis. On the upper deck there is a pilot cabin, a radio operator and mechanic compartment. The message with the cargo cabin is carried by the ladder ladder, installed on the port side inside the cabin. The pilot cabin is separated from the engine compartment by an acoustic partition with a door.
Subsequently, the project of the comparatively small "R" was postponed in favor of the transport airborne aircraft DT 5/8 intended for landing and airborne landing of troops with equipment and weapons with a total mass of up to 8 tons, which in turn was transformed into the design of the An-8.
