Antonov DT-5/8 Desantno Transportnyiy
In December 1951, Oleg Konstantinovich Antonov sent the customer preliminary material on the new transport and landing aircraft, which received the designation DT-5/8. This machine was the first development of a military transport aircraft in 0KB-153, which served as a prototype for the future An-8, An-12, etc. The plan of the highplane became later classical for military transport planes all over the world.
Many developments were used in the construction of the An-8. In parallel, a hermicakabin-capsule was developed to transport people and equipment. It was loaded in advance on the ground, then installed in the cargo compartment of the aircraft DT 5/8, and life support systems were connected to it.
Desantno Transportnyiy DT 5/8 was a transport-landing plane for landing and airborne troops landing with equipment and weapons with a total mass of up to 8 tons. At the bottom, in the rear of the fuselage, there is a large cargo hatch for loading and unloading cargo and landing troops in the air. The aircraft is equipped with two TVD-TV-2 with a capacity of 6000 e. and coaxial screws. TV-2 was created in OKB ND Kuznetsov with the participation of German specialists. The defensive armament consists of a stern cannon installation. The main design data: take-off weight - 36,600 kg cruising speed - 450 km / h, flight range - 3000 km, practical ceiling - 11,500 m, landing speed 140 km / h, take-off and run length 400 m.
DT-5/8 had a voluminous cargo cabin, characteristic of this type of vehicles, with a large cargo in the rear part of the fuselage. Such a constructive solution would solve the problems of loading and unloading cargo and equipment during landing landing and dropping paratroopers with their equipment and weapons in the air. The aircraft was to be equipped with two turbo-screw engines TV-2 (6500 hp each) with coaxial screws five meters in diameter and a special centipede chassis with large wheels (1200x450 mm), which provided high ground and snow patency.
The aircraft's armament consisted of a stern cannon-type PV-23 and a cannon remotely controlled tower on the upper surface of the fuselage. The DT-5/8 is a high-glide all-metal construction. The fuselage of the beam-stringer design of large diameter. The crew cabin is on the second floor and has a large area of glazing and partial booking. The crew consists of five people.
In the rear part of the fuselage there is an unsealed large cargo hatch with a folding ramp for loading and unloading large-scale military equipment: guns 122 mm in caliber, self-propelled units of ACS-57, mortars with GAZ-63 vehicles, armored personnel carriers, etc. The wing of the aircraft is high-lying, trapezoidal shape in plan, large elongation, with metal sheathing. The tail tail of the normal type, the stabilizer with elevator and the keel with the steering wheel have a metal sheathing. There are servo trimmers on the steering wheel and rudders.
The propulsion system consistd of two TV-2 engines with a capacity of 6500 liters. from. The multi-wheeled chassis of the aircraft: two bow single-wheeled racks with two wheels and six basic single-wheeled racks (three on each side). Armament DT-5/8 from the aft cannon installation PV-23 design A. Fedoseev with two AM-23 guns.
The DT-5/8 project was not realized, but a wooden model of the forward part of its fuselage with a crew cabin was built. A full-scale model of the forward part of the fuselage was constructed for working out the placement of crew members. Unfortunately, no materials for the D-5/8 project have survived, except for two images of the model and the layout scheme.
