Russian Nuclear Submarine Belgorod, Project 09852 KS-139 "Belgorod" is a modified OSCAR-II cruise missile submarine which is being converted to serve as a Special Missions mother submarine for the Losharik reconnaissance submarine. The submarine of project 09852 is the largest submarine ever built in Russia (USSR). However, its displacement is inferior to that of the Project 941 "Sharks" submarine (Typhoon).

Customer is the General Directorate of Deep Sea Marine Research of the Ministry of Defense (GUGI) (head of department — Vice Admiral Burilichev AV). The crew of the Belgorod will consist of officers of the Navy, while the submarine itself will belong to GUGI.
The project “Shelf” (also known as “Harmony”), which is the Arctic submarine detection network, is inextricably linked with Belgorod. "Belgorod" and its subsidiaries will be involved in the creation of a submarine network of sensors, stretching beyond the Arctic Circle. In fact, the "Shelf" is the arctic equivalent of SOSUS. Its underwater sensors and sonar-equipped buoys will record the movement of enemy submarines 100 km away.
The efficiency of the Russian SOSUS will provide a whole complex of underwater structures, for the normal functioning of which will require significant energy costs. The simplest way to solve this problem is the power cables from the coast station to the underwater complex. However, the engineering solution to this problem poses numerous difficulties. Not surprisingly, the Russian engineers decided to go the other way. According to known information, the modern underwater arctic complex will operate using an underwater nuclear reactor. The latter will be installed on the ocean floor using a midget or other underwater controlled device. After installation, the reactor will be connected to other elements of the subsea station, as well as tracking sensors.
Everyone knows that the submarine "Khabarovsk" is a project 09851, but no one knows what it looks like. Judging by Belgorod (project 985.2), the 985th project is an alteration of the Project 949. As of November 2015 it was reported that two nuclear-powered 'Project 09852' and 'Project 09851' submarines that Rubin was currently working on will be tasked with launching the project known as Ocean Multipurpose System: Status-6.
Three submarines - Prince Oleg (the Borey project), Krasnoyarsk (the Yasen project) and Khabarovsk were laid at the Sevmash enterprise in Severodvinsk, the company's general director Mikhail Budnychenko reported to the Russian president on video communication 27 July 2014. As of 2012 Russia had three unfinished Oscar-class submarines laid down in the period 1992-1994. It is possible that construction of one of these has been resumed at Sevmash. On 23 April 2019, Russia launched its nuclear submarine K-329 Belgorod in Severodvinsk. This 184 meter long sea giant appears as the first bearer of Poseidon drones. Underwater Cable Vessel
In the 1990s by order of the Ministry of communications of the Russian Federation of CDB Mt "Rubin" was carried out research work on verifying the possibility of creating an underwater cable vessel, capable of lining and repair telecommunications lines under pakovymi ice in the Arctic, as well as for the development of appropriate technologies.
As a result of the implementation of the various options that ship designs as the basis for its establishment was suggested to use the output from the missile submarine Cruiser project 667BDR, 941 and 949a. This approach allows to rationally use the available equipment of these ships and count on cost recovery.
For specialists of CDB MT "Rubin" development options for underwater cable was new, extremely interesting and unusual work. Specialists of CDB Mt "Rubin", took part in these works, displayed their best engineering quality and technical erudition. As a result, the existing cabling technology used on the surface of cable ships, has been adapted for underwater laying of cable. According to the results of work by experts of CDB Mt "Rubin" was obtained several patents.
