In 2015 Project 02980 was reclassified from Marine tug to rescue tugboat. The tugs of Project 02980 are designed to assist ships in distress, search, rescue, evacuation and accommodation of people, providing them with health care, fulfillment marine towage of vessels, floating objects and structures in the ice and open water. In addition, the tow can be used to extinguish fires on floating and onshore, burning fuel on water, as well as to ensure the underwater work and other tasks.
