Tactical Operations Group 2 (TOG 2) sits on a 38,340 square meter lot situated at the Southeastern end of Runway 30 at Purok Airport, Barangay San Fermin, Cauayan City, Isabela. The mission of TOG 2 is to plan, control and coordinate the employment of air power in its area of responsibility. Its area of responsibility covers the Cagayan Valley Region and some parts of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). This includes the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Batanes, Nueva Vizcaya, Kalinga, Apayao and Ifugao. Its specific functions include: determining tactical air requirements in the AOR; exercising operational control/supervision over all Air Force Units deployed in the AOR; conducting tactical air operations within the AOR; performing forward air control missions; performing airfield operations and service support functions; and performing Civil Military Operations (CMO) within the AOR.

Tactical Operations Group 2 traces its lineage back to 12 July 1972 when the unit was activated as Composite Air Support Force 2 (CASF 2). This unit was created to provide air support to ground forces operating at Digoyo Point and Palanan, both of Isabela province, in connection with the infamous M/V Karagatan scenario. Said vessel contained an arsenal of assorted high caliber firearms and ammunitions intended to the Communist New Peoples' Army.

On 1 April 1988, per Headquarters, Philippine Air Force General Order Nr 90 dated 24 Feb 1988, CASF 2 was downgraded to Tactical Air Control Party Cauayan (TACP UY) and it was placed under the command and control of Composite Air Support Force 1 (CASF 1) based at Loakan Airport, Baguio City. Its mission and functions remained the same. On 15 October 1998, TACP UY was renamed Composite Tactical Squadron Cauayan (CTS UY), while CASF 1 was likewise renamed Composite Tactical Group 1 (CTG 1). When the 1st Tactical Operations Wing was activated on 1 February 2001, CTS UY was placed directly under its command and control.

On 1 October 2002, by virtue of Headquarters, Philippine Air Force General Order Nr 323 dated 7 October 2002, CTS UY was upgraded to Tactical Operations Group 2 (TOG 2). This unit continued to operate under the command and control of the 1st Tactical Operations Wing until this unit was inactivated. TOG 2 was subsequently placed under the command and control of 1st Air Division.
