590th Air Base Group

The mission of the 590th Air Base Group is to establish, operate and maintain aerodrome and base facilities and provide essential aerodrome and base wide services to all units of 15th Strike Wing. Its specific functions include: Formulating plans and policies on base defense and base development; providing and maintaining base facilities and base services to organic and tenant units; providing and maintaining ground transportation for the 15th Strike Wing; providing security for the base installations, equipment and material in support of the base defense plan; providing aerodrome services and ground communication to Major Danilo S. Atienza Air Base; and performing other functions as the Commander of the 15th Strike Wing may direct.

The 590th Air Base Group traces its lineage to the Directorate for Base Services (DBS), a coordinating staff under the command of the Wing Commander, 240th Composite Wing. On 21 November 1989, the DBS was inactivated as part of the integration or inactivation of the elements of the 240th Composite Wing into the 15th Strike Wing, pursuant to General Orders Number 100, Headquarters, 15th Strike Wing, dated 20 November 1989. On 25 April 1990, the 590th Air Base Group, under the command of l5th Strike Wing, pursuant to General Orders Numberr 140, dated 4 May 1990.

The broad and varied essential base missions of the 590th ABG led to a total of 5 squadrons being placed under its command.. The 592nd Air Base Squadron was tasked to operate and maintain base facilities and provide base services to organic and tenants units. The 593rd Engineering Squadron was tasked to provide in-house construction, rehabilitation and corrective maintenance functions for the base facilities. This also included disaster control, base development and environmental projects. The 594th Air Police Squadron was task with law enforcement duties and maintaining proper military conduct and discipline among all PAF personnel on base. It was also tasked with providing security for the Air Base installations and equipments. The 595th Motor Vehicle Squadron was task to provide and maintain motor transportation in support of the 15th Strike Wing and its units. The 596th Aerodrome Squadron was tasked to provide aerodrome services and ground communication for Major Danilo S Atienza Air Base.
