560th Air Base Wing
560th Composite Tactical Wing
560th Air Base Group
The 560th Air Base Wing's mission is to operate and maintain the base facilities and provide support, services and security at Brigadier General Mactan Benito Ebuen Airbase. Specific duties include internal and external security, fire, crash and rescue services, aerodrome operations, command, control and communication systems operation, base morale and recreational activities, base repair and maintenance, rehabilitiation and relief operations, and base healthcare.
The 560th Air Base Wing traces its lineage to the activation of the 561st Air Base Squadron on 1 September 1961. The Squadron was the first to provide support at the newly constructed Mactan Air Base. On 1 April 1965, the 561st Squadron was used to form the core of the 560th Air Base Group. On 1 September 1967, the unit again reorganized as the 560th Composite Tactical Wing.
In 1975, the Philippine Air Force adopted the Air Division concept and based the 2nd Air Division at Mactan AB, and the 560th was placed under this new command. As a result the unit was reorganized as the 560th Air Base Wing. Its mission remained the same. From 1983 to 1987, the unit was again called the 560th Composite Tactical Wing, before its name was changed back to the 560th Air Base Wing.
The 2nd Air Division was inactivated in 1998 and the Tactical Operations Command was activated. On 1 February 2001, the 560th Air Base Wing was reorganized again as the 560th Air Base Group and assigned to the newly activated 2nd Tactical Operations Wing.
In August 2007 the decision was made by the Headquarters of the Philippine Air Force to return to the Air Division organization and the 2nd Air Division was reactivated. The 560th Air Base Wing was similarly reactivated..
