41st Infantry Battalion

The mission of the 41st Infantry Battalion is to conduct internal security operations in the province of Abra and the 8 municipalities of southern Benguet.

The 41st Infantry Battalion was activated under General Orders Number 345 from Headquarters, Philippine Army dated 17 February 1975. The first Battalion Commander in the person of Lt Colonel Arturo T Enrile, who later became the Philippine Military Academy Superintendent, Commanding General of the Army, and the Chief of Staff of the AFP, infused excellence in the name of the unit. When it was activated, the Battalion was then under the Army's 1st Infantry Division based at Fort Ramon Magsaysay, Nueva, Ecija.

After a successful campaign against the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) forces in Zamboanga Peninsula and Basilan, the Battalion was pulled out in Basilan late in January 1983 and was deployed in Davao del Norte to help contain the threat posed by communist terrorists in the entire Davao province.

In May 1983 the 41st Infantry Battalion was inactivated to form the basis for the 1st Scout Ranger Battalion. On 11 October 1983, pursuant to General Orders No 590, Headquarters Philippine Army, soldiers were organized to compose and man the new 41st Infantry Battalion, this time an organic element of the 5th Infantry Division, then based at Camp General Servillano Aquino, Tarlac.

The unit moved on orders to the different provinces in northern Luzon to conduct counter insurgency operations against the New People's Army in the provinces of Kalinga, Apayao, Isabela, Cagayan and now, in Abra.

Notable among their many accomplishments were the return to the folds of the law of the Cordillera People's Liberation Army headed by the late Father Conrado Balweg in 1986, and the participation in the liberation of Marag Valley in Apayao mountain range from the influence of the NPA from 1990 to 1992.

The Battalion subsequently focuses on relentless combat operations, coupled with effective civil-military operations aimed at establishing a peaceful environment conducive to economic development and progress. Through its efforts, the Battalion was able to overrun several NPA encampments within its areas of responsibility. Significant among these was the capture of the main camp of the Abra Provincial Party Committee at Pacoc-Talampac, Lacub, Abra last April 2007.
