"Hornets / Air Commando"

The 206th Tactical Helicopter Squadron, the "Hornets," are the Mindanao arm of the 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing. The unit is based at Edwin Andrews Air Base in Zamboanga City and provides the much needed heli-lift capability to ground troops, as well as Government and Non-Government agencies in Mindanao.

The 206th Tactical Helicopter Squadron was first activated in 1969 as the Composite Air Commando Squadron. This coincided with the arrival of the PAF's first 4 UH-1H helicopters, which were assigned to the new unit. The unit was later redesignated as the 206th Helicopter Squadron and then the 206th Tactical Helicopter Squadron.

With the reactivation of 3rd Air Division, the 206th Tactical Helicopter Squadron was placed under its operational control.
