Iraqi Resistance Brigades

The Iraqi Resistance Brigades have claimed responsibility for a number of attacks against U.S. Forces in Iraq.

The group appears to have dissociated itself from Saddam Hussein whom they have referred as the "enemy". They have denied that the attacks on American troops are the work of Ba'athist loyalists.

The group claims to be made up of a group of young Iraqis and Arabs who strive for the unity, freedom and Arab essence of Iraq.

According to an 11 August 2003 Al-Jazeera report, the group claimed responsibility for "all" attacks against US-led occupation forces in Iraq.

According to a statement dated 16 June 2003, "these operations are planned and executed by the units of the Iraqi Resistance Brigades and, contrary to what some news agencies claim, they are not the work of the head of the former regime and his supporters or individual acts by Islamist extremists".
