Martyr Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades Rockets
The Palestinian resistance development of missile and mortar systems began 20 years ago with a missile and cannons whose range did not exceed 3 kilometers, and today the missiles have reached Tel Aviv and beyond. The Martyr Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades were the pioneers of the Palestinian experience in the field of development and production of local mortars manufactured by their fighters, which began in 2001 AD.
The engineering unit of the Martyr Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades manufactured the first mortar cannon in the Gaza Strip, which was 80 mm caliber and had a range of 2000-3000 meters. The comrades did not stop at this breakthrough, but rather continued the process of arming, manufacturing, and military training. The battalions began training the comrades, and a number of them were sent to train outside the Gaza Strip. After manufacturing the mortar, the move was to manufacture “Aerja” shells, which are small explosive shells that are fired at individuals and vehicles, and then to manufacture missiles.
The first missile manufactured by the Martyr Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades was the “Samoud 1” [Resilience] missile. The Brigades announced its launch for the first time on 3/13/2003 towards the Zionist settlement of Sderot, to be the first missiles manufactured locally by the engineers of the Martyr Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades.
The Martyr Abu Ali Brigades said that the bombing of Sderot comes as “a natural response to the massacres and crimes of the Zionist entity and its so-called special forces continuing against the masses of the Palestinian people in the Palestinian territories, the most recent of which was the invasion of the village of Sidon near Tulkarm and the storming of the town of Beit Hanoun by special forces soldiers and the terrorization of women and children.”
The Brigades pledged to the Palestinian people to “continue developing their means of combat in the face of the Israeli military machine,” and to continue the intifada and armed resistance in all its forms “until the expulsion of the invaders, the establishment of a fully sovereign Palestinian state with Holy Jerusalem as its capital, and the return of the Palestinian refugees.”
The Popular Front warned the Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, his Defense Minister, Shaul Mofaz, and all the military personnel against continuing to commit their massacres against the masses of the Palestinian people.
This opened the chapters of the local military industries in the field of missiles until they reached what they have reached today, and the range of the “Samoud 1” missile reached between 5-7 kilometers. The resistance's homemade missiles became a turning point in the conflict with the enemy, and the missiles, in their upgraded version, are taken into account by the occupation.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine declared Friday 13 October 2023, a day of escalation for the sake of Gaza, calling on the masses of the Palestinian people everywhere to mobilize in the streets, rise up in the face of the occupation, and start an open clash, "as an expression of the state of engagement with the Gaza Strip." It also called on the people of the West Bank, the occupied territories, and the Arab nations to organize urgent relief convoys to Gaza, stressing the need for priority to be given to medical supplies and fuel.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) announced the martyrdom of Awad "Abu Samoud" Al-Sultan, a senior member of the Palestinian resistance faction. Subsequently, it was reported that the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades retaliated by launching a barrage of rockets targeting the Zakim military base.
Al-Samoud was a liquid-propellant rocket tactical ballistic missile, partly based on the SA-2, a large Soviet air defense missile, developed by Iraq in the years between the Gulf War and the 2003 Invasion of Iraq.
