PNS Bahadur

PNS BAHADUR is arguably the largest establishment in the Pakistan Navy. Its primary role is to conduct basic, mid career and advanced professional courses for all trades of operations branch and associated branches. All efforts are made to accommodate related requirements of Allied Navies and even our sister services. PNS BAHADUR had started off initially with only four basic seaman branch schools namely Navigation & Ops, Surface Weapons, Underwater Warfare and Communication. Other facilities school/centre were progressively added to meet the requirements of PN All training activities pertaining to various trades of the Operation Branch are conducted at PNS BAHADUR.

PNS BAHADUR was originally the boys training establishment till 1970, when its role was assigned to another establishment named PNS HIMALAYA and its own site was converted into the Pakistan Naval Academy. The new PNS BAHADUR was recommissioned at its present site in June 1983 and became the center of Operations Branch Training by housing all professional schools. In 1986 PNS BAHADUR was commissioned as the main professional training center for seaman branch personnel. It housed the Surface Warfare, Naval Warfare and OPS, Communications, Hydrography, EW, Instructional Techniques and Music schools.

The primary role of this establishment is to conduct basic and mid-career professional courses for officers and sailors of Operations and associated branches of the Pakistan Navy and for meeting similar training requirements of Allied Navies.

The complex houses a number of schools specific to different aspects of Naval Warfare.

The Surface Weapons School previously known as Gunnery School was first established at Manora on 27 November 1943. On 13 October 1982 it was shifted to its present location at PNS BAHADUR and has now expanded with numerous simulators and computer based training facilities. The aim of the Surface Weapons School is to train officers and CPOs/Sailors of PN by giving them sound professional, moral and physical grounds to enable them to develop into proficient personnel for Above Water Warfare, including training of personnel for aid to civil power/internal security.

The school has the honour of having trained officers from Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran, Indonesia, Libya, Saudi Arabia, PLO, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Kenya and the Maldives.

The Navigation & Operations School was established at PNS HIMALAYA in November 1949. The school has more than 50 years experience in training junior officers and CPOs/Sailors of PN & Allied Navies. In 1982 the school was shifted to its present location at PNS BAHADUR. The role of the school is to conduct basic professional and mid career courses for officers, CPOs and sailors of Navigation and Operations branch of PN as well as Allied navies. Generally an average of 150 officers and 250 CPOs/sailors are being trained every year at the school. The school has trained officers from Qatar, Mayanmar, Kenya, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UAE and Bahrain.

Underwater Warfare School is the alma mater of Torpedo and Anti Submarine branch officers/sailors. Since its advent, it has steadily progressed, keeping itself abreast with all the modern trends and technological advancements in the field of underwater warfare. Over the years it has groomed a multitude of officers and CPOs/sailors, arming them with tentacles of ASW tactical development, virulent weaponry evolutions and other variables pertaining to undersea arsenal. The aim of the underwater school is to train the PN and allied officers, CPOs /sailors in underwater warfare acting as center for tactical thought and development in both anti submarine and mine warfare.

The school has trained officers from Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mayanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Communications School was established in 1958 at PNS HIMALAYA as PN Signal School. The school was shifted to its present location at PNS BAHADUR on 01 January 1982. In the late 1993, it was renamed as PN Communications School. The role of the school is to train officers, CPOs/sailors of PN and allied countries in the field of naval communications. The school has been provided with sufficient facilities to keep the officers and men abreast with the innovative world of communications. The training facilities at the Communication School include cubicals for voice procedure training morse keying rooms and a hall for practical training on Wide Area Network (WAN).

Whereas Electronic Warfare (EW) was taught as a part of communications syllabus in yesteryears, it was given focused attention by PN and an Electronic Warfare Center was established in the school building in 1993. It has continued to grow and flourish since inception and conducts a number of courses/classes for a variety of trainees. Since its inauguration the institution has been the center of all EW activities in PN and has produced a large number of Basic and Advance EW qualified officers and sailors. The EWTC has also trained a considerable number of officers & CPOs/sailors from several allied countries as well as for the sister services. The EWTC is equipped with the best possible training facilities, which continue to grow with time. This includes generic basic EW Simulator, dedicated EW System Simulators, Computer Based Training facilities and EW parameters analysis equipments.
