BK117 Helicopter

The Kawasaki BK117 helicopter was jointly developed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Germany's Eurocopter-Deutschland. This was Japan's first such international joint program in this field. The aircraft acquired type certification from the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau in 1982. Since then over 110 units have been deivered to customers in Japan and more than 380 units have been delivered elsewhere in the world.

BK117s are widely used in Japan by local government agencies in fire fighting, disaster prevention, police, EMS(Emergency Medical Service)and other roles.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. developed AVR (Active Vibration Reduction) System for BK117 helicopter. AVR System is designed to reduce the vibration at the pilot seats or the passenger seats. This system reduces the vibration of BK117 helicopter under 0.05G at 4/rev and 8/rev regardless of the air speed.

The BK117 is the only helicopter in Japan to be developed, manufactured, sold and repaired by a single company. The Gifu Works, conveniently situated near the center of the country, can supply parts to customers nationwide within 24 hours. The facility also houses engineers involved in the aircraft's development as well as highly experienced BK117 maintenance personnel, able to handle any request for technical information.

The EC 145 multi-role helicopter has been jointly developed by Eurocopter and Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan. The EC 145 is a development of the Eurocopter/Kawasaki BK 117 C-1 with increased take-off weight and cabin volume. The helicopter is designated the BK 117 C-2 in Japan.
