144 Squadron - The Phoenix

The 144 squadron was formed in the early 1970s and was originally composed of about 20 IAI Nesher aircraft. The 144 squadron saw combat in the 1973 Yom Kippur War and was converted to operating Kfir C-2 aircraft in 1978, retiring the IAI Neshers. In 1983, the squadron began operating the updated Kfir C-7 variant, which replaced the older C-2. The squadron continued operating Kfir aircraft until at least 1993, and in 1995, it began flying F-16A and F-16B aircraft. As of 2005, the 144 squadron flew F-16A/B aircraft exclusively.
