Iraqi Turkoman Birth Party
The Iraqi Turkoman Birth Party was founded in Al-Sulaymaniyah in 1999 to defend the rights of Turkomans in Iraq; it is led by Chairman Muwaffaq Muhammad Cevher Kuryali. In frequent conflict with the Turkoman Front, the Birth Party wants to represent the Turkoman population in the new Iraqi government. Kuryali accused the Turkish government and the Turkoman Front of trying to provoke tension in Mosul and Kirkuk in June 2004 and accused Turkey as being behind recent assassinations of democratic Turkomans in those cities.
