Comorian Air Wing
The Comorian military means are derisory, limited to four aircraft: two light Letl-410 twin engines, a light AS-350B Aerospatiale helicopter, and a Mil Mi-14 rescue helicopter out of age. A twin-engine Cessna 402 would be used locally by " paramilitaries ", in fact mercenaries in the pay of the power in place.
On 6 July 2012, the Overseas Transport Squadron (ETOM) Meeting of the Armed Forces of the Southern Ocean of the Indian Ocean (FAZSOI), deployed at the Rolland-Garros air base in Saint-Denis, Electricity between Mayotte and the Comoros, using a tactical transport plane type C160 Transall .
This intervention for the Comoros is part of the assistance to populations in the event of a natural disaster. The delivery of the electrical equipment follows the emergency humanitarian aid provided by France in May 2012 , at the request of the authorities of the Union of the Comoros. By the end of April 2012, severe flooding had caused extensive damage in several parts of the three islands of Grande Comore, Mohéli and Anjouan, leaving 46,000 people homeless, including more than 8,000 homeless.
These floods have particularly damaged the electrical installations. In a gesture of support for neighboring islands, Electricité de Mayotte donated equipment to the Comorian electric power generation and distribution company "Mam-We". His Excellency Philippe Lacoste, French Ambassador to the Comoros, requested the support of the FAZSOI for the transport of the equipment. A first tranche of 6 tons of priority equipment was dispatched. The remainder of the load, too bulky, was transported by sea by the Comorian navy.
The Overseas Transport Squadron (ETOM) "Réunion" is composed of 40 soldiers including 7 pilots, 2 sailors and 6 mechanics. Equipped with 2 tactical transport aircraft type Transall and 2 helicopters Fennec , the ETOM assured during the 1 st half of 2012, 22 missions of sovereignty, 25 public service missions, 30 cooperative missions and assistance to populations, and 12 training missions. ETOM is thus participating with all the FAZSOI in the preservation of the interests of France in this region.
