Military Farms Service

Military Farms are maintained primarily to provide a reliable supply of pure dairy produce to Armed Forces and fodder for the animals maintained by Army, at places where such supplies are not available from the civil sources. Vegetables are also produced at certain stations for issue to the troops.

Military Farms are administered by the Director of Military Farms, at the Army Headquarters. The Director acts as an adviser to the Quartermaster General on technical matters connected with the working of the Military Farms. He is also responsible to the Quartermaster economy of the farms. At each Command Headquarters, there is a Deputy Director who is responsible for the efficient running of Military Farms located under the Command. Each farm is under the charge of a Farm Officer.

Although the bulk of the requirements of the Defence Services is produced in these farms, it is necessary to resort occasionally to the local purchase of dairy produce to supplement the farms own produce. The purchase of fodder is also necessary as the resources of the farms are not yet developed to meet the entire requirements of the Army.
