Awarded
for courage and promptitude in saving life from drowning, fire,
rescue operations in mines, rescuer displayed in an act or a series
of acts of humane nature in saving life from drowning, fire rescue
operations in mines. The medal may be awarded posthumously.
Persons
of either sex in all walks of life, other than the members of the
Armed Forces, Police Forces and of recognized Fire Services, if the
act is performed by them in the course of duty.
If
a recipient of the medal shall again perform such an act of humane
service as would have made him or her eligible to receive the same
medal such further act of humane service shall be recognized by a
bar to be attached to the riband by which the medal is suspended
and, for every subsequent act of humane service, and additional Bar
shall be added and such Bar or Bars may also be awarded
posthumously. For every such bar, a replica of the medal in
miniature shall be added to the riband when worn alone.
Rs
500/- to the recipients. In respect of a bar to an award, the cash
grant will be 50 % of the amount specified. If an award is given
posthumously, the cash grant will be twice the amount admissible
otherwise.
