COAS COMMENDATION CARD

Awarded
for individual acts of gallantry or distinguished service or
devotion to duty performed either in operation or non-operational
areas which are not of a sufficiently high order to qualify for a
higher gallantry award or for which the higher award is
inappropriate. The award will be for a specific act of bravery or
distinguished service or special service
The award will not be made posthumously.
1.
Vice Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Card is instituted
with effect from the date of issue of this letter.
This Commendation Card shall be awarded for individual acts
of gallantry, distinguished service or devotion to duty and will be
at par with the Commendations awarded by GOCs-in-C.
2.
The award will be conferred twice a year on the occasion of
Independence Day (15 Aug) and Army Day (15 Jan).
3.
All ranks of the Army, and civilian personnel working at the
Army Headquarters, Organisations of the Army which do not fall under
purview of any Command Headquarters and personnel of Units and other
Central/State Organisations working directly under the Army HQ shall
be eligible for this award.
4. The Commendation Card shall be awarded for individual acts of gallantry or distinguished service or devotion to duty performed in operational or non-operational areas which are not of a sufficiently high order to qualify for a higher award. The following shall generally be considered for the award of VCOAS Commendation Card:-
(a) An
act of bravery or courage.
(b)
An act done outside the ordinary scope of one's duty by way
of innovative work or improving an existing system or procedure
which greatly enhances the efficiency of the organisation.
(c)
An act which has greatly contributed to the success of the
Service at a National level, bringing singular credit to the Army.
(d)
Any other outstanding performance.
