11 Corps / XI Corps

In April 2002 A major reshuffle at the Army Commanders' level was expected with the appointment of Jallandhar-based XI Corps Commander, Lt. Gen. Shantonu Choudhry, as the head of Army's doctrine and training command. He succeeds Lt. Gen. Shamsher Singh Mehta, Commander, Army Training Command (ARTRAC) at Shimla. Gen. Mehta was expected to replace Lt. Gen. Surjit Singh Sangra as the Western Army Commander. Gen Sangra retired from the Chandigarh-based Command on March 31. As the ARTRAC Commander, Gen. Choudhry will be upgrading the strategic as well as the tactical doctrines of the Army.
