Motor Yacht Fulk al Salamah
Fulk al Salamah, which means Ship of Peace, is an amphibious transport and logistics ship, assigned to the Royal Yacht Squadron of Oman. The yacht is owned by Sultan Sayyed Qabus bin Said as Said of Oman (also known as Sultan Qaboos bin Said). The yacht's aft helicopter deck and hangar is very similar to luxury motor yacht Octopus. The support ship is often seen in company with the royal yacht Al Said. The world's third largest yacht, after Eclipse and Dubai, Al Said measures 155 meters, and often is seen together with her 136 meter dedicated support vessel Fulk Al-Salamah. The previous Al Said was a 103 metre superyacht, built in 1982 in Italy. That yacht, now renamed Loaloat Al Behar has been made available for charters in the Middle East.
Bremer Vulkan was the naval architect involved in the professional vessel design work for Fulk al Salamah. Also the company Bremer Vulkan and Burness Corlett - Three Quays worked on this venture. Bremer Vulkan Ag completed their new build motor yacht in Germany. In 1987 she was launched in Vegesack and after post sea trials and detailing was then delivered to the owner who commissioned her.
The core hull was crafted from steel. The motor yacht superstructure component is made largely with steel. With a beam of 21.04 metres or 69 ft Fulk al Salamah has huge internal space. She has a fairly shallow draft of 6.01m (19.7ft). The A420-6 engine powering the yacht is built by GM. Fulk al Salamah is propelled by twin screw propellers. The engine of the ship gives 4200 horse power (or Fulk al Salamah kilowatts). She is equiped with 4 engines. The total power for the boat is accordingly 16800 HP / 12362 KW. She carries approximately 130 expert qualified crew to maintain and sail.
In her attack transport role, the has accomodation for two Sea Truck landing craft below the helicopter deck, a large cargo hold forward with a 22x7 meter hatch, accomodation for at least 240 troops, and a large vehicle loading door to starboard, plus four personnel / stores doors on the hull sides.
