Al-Tariq IN/GPS-guided bomb kit
The combat-proven AL TARIQ is a flexible family of kit systems. These unguided aerial weapons are converted into high-precision, longer-range, focused munitions using a range of guidance and propulsion technologies. The AL TARIQ system’s modular nature, programming flexibility, long-stand-off ranges of up to 120km, and all-weather, day-or-night operational capabilities enable it to adapt as your missions evolve. These features further help you to achieve enhanced targeting accuracy by using Imaging Infrared (IIR) technologies with Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) capabilities, or semi-active laser (SAL) seekers.
The Emirati-based Al-Tariq is a modular IN/GPS-guided bomb kit, used to convert unguided bombs as Mk-81/82/83 into guided glide bombs. It has a range of 40-120km. Egyptian Air Force Mirage-2000 fighter jets appeared in July 2021 for the 1st time armed with Al-Tariq Precision-guided munitions.
AL TARIQ is a world-class manufacturer of precision-guided air munitions. Partnering with Denel Dynamics, South Africa’s largest government-owned defence manufacturer, it has enhanced production capacity through cutting-edge technology and continual innovation. Kits come in easy-to-handle-and-deploy packages and achieve precision targeting via choice systems including GNSS/INS, Imaging Infrared (IIR) with complete Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) capabilities, and semi-active laser seekers against high-priority fixed, off-axis, moving, and relocatable targets. Leveraging the latest advanced technologies gives an edge in optics, propulsion, and weapons. This allows engineering teams to create intellectual property across disciplines, including software development and mechanical design.
On 20 November 2019 Al Tariq announced major upgrades to its Al Tariq precision guided missiles (PGM) during the Dubai Air Show 2019. With the enhancements, the Al Tariq PGM family of weapons is now updated to the new Block 2 definition. The Block 2 definition boasts a host of improvements including an enhanced navigation solution and are fully compliant with US military standard 1760 (MIL-STD-1760), French standard DIGIBUS, and also boast new Height-Of-Burst-Sensor (HOBS) capabilities for Precision Guided Munitions.
The upgrades boost the capacities of Al Tariq’s precision guided weapon technology with a new PowerPack that equips the weapons with a pre-flight power source, and greater mission flexibility with cockpit fuse programmability. Theunis Botha, General Manager of Al Tariq, said: “The upgrades to the Al Tariq weapons system indicate our sustained commitment to adapting and innovating at a time when the need to build readiness and resilience cannot be overstated. We are continuously strengthening our foundations and building in-house capabilities to deliver advanced products and solutions, through which we aim to empower defence and security forces, protect lives, and safeguard national interests.”
Al Tariq manufactures the combat-tested and proven Al Tariq range – a flexible family of bomb kit systems used on the MK81 and MK82 aerial weapons. Converting unguided aerial weapons into high-precision, longer-range focused munitions using a range of guidance and propulsion technologies, the system’s modular nature and the flexibility of its programming enable it to adapt to new priorities as missions evolve.
By building capabilities in easy-to-handle and deploy packages, Al Tariq’s advanced solutions achieve precision targeting through a choice of systems, including GNSS/INS (Global Navigation Satellite System/Inertial Navigation System), imaging infrared with Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) capabilities, and Semi-Active Laser (SAL) seekers against high-priority fixed, off-axis, moving and re-locatable targets.
AL TARIQ, an EDGE Group company involved in the design and manufacturing of precision guided munitions (PGMs), showcased its integration of the AL TARIQ guidance kit on a newly developed Penetration Warhead. The program was in the final phases of qualification and field testing and will be ready for production towards the end of 2021. This new development enhanced AL TARIQ’s capabilities to successfully engage hardened targets. In line with its participation at the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX 2021) taking place from 21 to 25 February, in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, AL TARIQ is also provided details on the major upgrades to its family of PGMs.
The system integration onto a new generation Penetration Warhead is a milestone achievement for the company, making it possible to field such a purpose-built warhead on the guidance kit. This new feature enhances the capability to neutralise strategic infrastructure such as bridges, reinforced shelters, control centers and fortified installations utilising the warhead’s superb penetrating performance.
AL TARIQ also briefed stakeholders on the enhancements implemented to its family of PGMs, which had recently been updated to the Block 2 specifications. The upgrade boasts a host of latest technology improvements, including an enhanced navigation solution, a new Height-Of-Burst-Sensor (HOBS) capability for airburst applications and a weapon system that is capable of being digitally integrated on aircraft requiring either MIL-STD-1760 or DIGIBUS interfacing.
The upgrade further boosts the integration of AL TARIQ’s PGMs with a new “PowerPack” that equips the weapons with a pre-flight power source, as well as greater mission flexibility through leveraging cockpit fuze programmability. Rendering it highly effective in neutralising its target, the weapons system incorporates the latest Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Receiver technology as well as a highly sophisticated GPS anti-jamming solution.
Theunis Botha, CEO of AL TARIQ said: “Innovation lies at the heart of our operations and is critical to ensure that our weapons remain at the cutting-edge of what is required for the modern-day battlefield. The integration of our first-ever Penetration Warhead reflects the versatility of our PGM systems. We remain focused on providing customers with the solutions they require to maintain the highest levels of effectiveness. Our Block 2 upgrade is also testament to our commitment to delivering best-in-class capabilities in international markets.”
AL TARIQ is part of the Weapons and Missiles cluster within EDGE, an advanced technology group for defence and beyond that ranks among the top 25 military suppliers in the world. The nomenclasure derives from a?-?ariq[1] (Arabic: “The Piercing Star”), the eighty-sixth sura of the Quran with 17 ayat. Muslims believe this chapter was sent to Muhammad when he was in Mecca.
